2008-07-23: Nordkoster

We leave Gråholmarna in the morning for an anchorage on the NO side of Nord Koster. We are tacking up the Koster Fjord in a moderate northerly breeze.Kajsa is trying to improve here sun tan. After we anchored up we take a walk down to the main guest marina for an ice cream and a look at all the other boats jammed alongside the floating dock.
The main guest marina is absolutely over crowded. Up to six boats are moored side by side. The sun is just blazing down from a clear sky and there is no wind. No, we much prefer our anchorage with a fresh breeze and lots of water to swim in.
In the local pub and restaurant there is a nice collection of old ship artifacts.
A view from the pilot lookout towards the south and the Ursholmen lighthouses in the distance.
After a nice dinner in the cockpit while the sun sets we enjoy the first warm evening in shorts and t-shirts only.

2008-07-22: Strömstad to the Koster archipelago.

On Tuesday we make we leave Ursholmen for Stömstad to pick up Lars mother Lena arriving by train from Stora Höga. Again a fantastic summer day and according to the forecast the good weather is here to stay for a wile. Lets pray and hope it’s true. Skipper is not so happy about being in Strömstad as he is not allowed to walk the docks.
After doing some shopping and topping up the water tank we set course on Gråholmarna. A cluster of tiny island south of Syd Koster. On an regular chart the waters does not look possible to navigate due to limited depths but with a special chart at hand you discover that there are deep channels everywhere and most of the islands are accessible.

Kajsa is reading from Restless web diary. We have made contact via mobile phone text message and learned that they are making their way south in the Oslo Fjord. We are hoping to see them soon.

Sea Wind in the evening sun while the sun sets in the west.

2008-07-21: Ursholmen

A wonderful morning and the morning sun calls for a swim before coffee. After breakfast we take a walk around the island and discover the ocean pool on the NW side. A bit difficult to reach but well worth the effort. Here one can take a swim in about 2 meter deep water and water watch the sunset in a quiet evening.

Kajsa is taking the opportunity to improve here tan.
Later in the day we are not so alone anymore. The boats just keep coming all day as the whether is getting better and better. As soon as one think that now the place is full another set of boats arrives over and over again.

2008-07-20: To Ursholmen

After a quiet and somewhat wet night we take off under grey skies to continue north. South of Hamburgsund we pass a vital “road sign” telling the direction towards Oslo and Gothenburg. Again we make a stretch outside the islands to take advantage of the north going current. Light or absent wind forces us to run by engine to cover some distance. To kill time we read and Mona is doing some needle craft, fabricating a bag for our new “rock wedges and sledge hammer” and Kajsa is watching some DVD movies.

Eventually we make landfall at Ursholmen on the south-western most tip of the Koster archipelago. To our surprise we are more or less alone except some people coming by boat to stay in the few houses on the island. Houses originally belonging to the light keeper and hiss family and staff. Later in the evening two more boats arrive and the weather improves and the sun starts to break through the clouds.
